This is 3 Easy Steps to Setting Up a New Blog. In this post, you’ll learn that you can get an entire blog off the ground in less than an hour, and it’s so much easier than you think. If you follow along, you’ll have a live blog by the end of the post.
Setting Up a New Blog
The initial set up of your blog is typically where a lot of people stall out and don’t take that first step. There is a perception that you need to have a lot of technical skill, or that it requires a lot of time to get started.
In reality, once you know your topic, getting the actual domain name, hosting, and installing WordPress is a fairly straightforward process. It can all be done yourself, or you can call your host and they can walk you through it.
I don’t want you to be worried or nervous about this part of the process. It literally just takes these three steps, and you will have a live, functioning blog that you can call your own.
Here’s a quick overview of the steps, and I’ll cover each one of them in detail coming up.
- Step 1 – Register Your Domain
- Step 2 – Set Up Hosting
- Step 3 – Install WordPress
See? It’s that simple. Continue reading, and by the end of this post you’ll have the foundation set for what I’m sure will be a blog that you can be proud of.
If you want to skip ahead, you can go to SiteGround and get started right away.
Step 1 – Set Up Your Domain
Your domain is just a technical term for the name of your website. The domain that you’re on right now is called letsmakeablog.com and that’s all there is to it. Essentially, you’re going to purchase an own a named spot on the internet.
If you have a list of words or ideas from step two, one of the best places you can go to get ideas for website domains is Lean Domain Search. This is a really good site, and it will give you a lot of ideas.
Write down a couple that you like, and you’ll have a couple options for registering your place on the internet. Take a little time if you need, and pick out some names that make you happy. Then, narrow it down to one or two and move on to the next step.
Step 2 – Set Up Hosting
Hosting is just a technical term for where your website lives on the internet. The internet is just a huge number of computers that have different files on them. On some computer in the world, or several, your website files will be stored.
As people access your site on the internet, what they’re really doing is accessing that one computer and looking at the files inside. Those computers cost money to purchase and operate, which is why you pay monthly for hosting.
I personally use SiteGround for all of my websites, and you can get started with them for a very low price.

After you’ve purchased a hosting plan, and registered your website name, come back and I’ll show you the final step, which is installing WordPress.
Step 3 – Install WordPress
WordPress is without a doubt the absolute best website building software in the world, and it’s entirely free. Though there are things you can buy down the road of course, the framework and the tools to get you started are completely free.
A large portion of the website that you see on the internet today are powered by WordPress, and after you work with this program you won’t be surprised why. Not only is it a powerful program, but it’s also very easy to use and figure out as a beginner.
When you set up your hosting, there is an option to download and install WordPress. If you aren’t comfortable doing the installation yourself through your hosting control panel, just contact up SiteGround and they can walk you through it.
Their customer service is excellent, and even with technical problems they are super helpful. Websites can be frustrating as a beginner, but thankfully SiteGround makes it easy to get the help you need.
After WordPress is installed, you’ll have a live blog on the internet that has your name at the top, and your foundation will be completely set.
What To Do Now?
Now that you have a live blog, it’s time to start writing. Your framework is in place, and though you don’t have any posts yet, that will change.
Over time, you will be adding your own material, and sharing your message with the world. It’s important not to be overwhelmed at this point, because the best blogs in the world were not created overnight. They all took a lot of time.
All you need to do is start writing about the subject that you love, and over time you will fill your site with tons of great information and helpful knowledge.
If you do it well, people will come to your site, and be better off when they leave.
Your Blogging Assignment
There are no more excuses. Literally, this process is so easy, and you can have the blog that you always dreamed of online and live for the world to see. If you have your name and your topic already figured out, it may only take minutes until you have a live website.
Domains are inexpensive, and hosting can be less than five dollars a month. Even if you were to sign up for a year, and spend about $70, wouldn’t that be a small price to pay to figure out if this is really your passion?
For that initial investment, you’ll have a year to add to your blog without paying anything extra. In that time, you can make a ton of progress, especially if you’re dedicated.
If you think about it, you can blow $70 on a dinner for two, and only lasts about an hour. For about that same amount of money, you can have a fully functioning blog for a year. When you look at it that way, it’s almost foolish for you not to give it a try.
